THE CHALLENGE

Find the story while the moment is happening.

Live event coverage has to serve the moment and the channels waiting for it. The Trophy Tour brought together a national sponsor, SA Rugby’s community competition, a local store and the people around it. With limited information available ahead of the shoot, the team needed to identify the strongest visual story quickly, capture a press-ready image alongside usable footage, protect the identities of the brands involved and convey the community spirit and emotion behind the initiative.

THE APPROACH

Plan the essentials. Stay responsive. Shape the story.

01

PLAN

Map the must-have moments, likely press requirements and social-video story. Plan stills and motion together so the trophy, setting, people and branded context can all be covered.

02

CREATE

Jason captured the photography and video while Raqual facilitated the interviews. With limited information ahead of the shoot, the team worked responsively to find the community spirit, emotion and intent behind the initiative.

03

DELIVER

Select and finish the press image, shape the footage into a concise vertical video and prepare approved assets for publication across official news and social channels.

PICK N PAY GOLD CUP / THE WORK

Selected work

Press-ready photography

A decisive lead image and supporting stills that gave the Trophy Tour a clear editorial focal point and enough context for formal publication.

Social video

A concise vertical edit that carried the energy and emotion of the visit into a format intended for Facebook and Instagram.

Supporting image library

A wider set of people, place, trophy and branded-detail images that can extend the story beyond one hero frame.

Publication handoff

Finished assets supplied for official use, with the clarity and responsiveness needed when several stakeholders are involved.

MEDIA SEQUENCE

Let the work do the persuading.

One shoot produced a connected visual story: a short-form video carrying the energy and voices of the visit, supported by photography that captured the trophy, the people and the community around it.

A man in a blue quilted jacket holds a smiling young boy at a Pick n Pay store event, with the Gold Cup trophy resting on a green and gold Pick n Pay display table in the foreground.A group in Pick n Pay branded jackets and a green Springbok rugby jersey pose with two grocery carts filled with Pick n Pay paper bags in the Wellington store.

THE RESULT

The work travelled beyond the handover.

The final photograph became the lead image for SA Rugby’s official 3 September 2026 announcement confirming the 32-club Gold Cup line-up. The article referenced the Trophy Tour’s first 2026 stop at Pick n Pay Wellington and carried a visible photo credit to Supermarketing.co.za. SA Rugby also asked to share the photography and video on its platforms, extending the work beyond the original activation.

The result is tangible third-party proof of creative work made for use, then selected for official publication.

IN THE WILD

Photography, publication and social proof.

The story continued beyond the day itself. Supermarketing’s photography and video were shared through official Gold Cup Rugby channels, turning a local Trophy Tour visit into social content that travelled well beyond the store.

  • Publication-ready output for multiple brand stakeholders.
  • Content selected and credited by an official national sport platform.
